The Ledbury Hunt team returned victorious from a thrilling inter hunt relay competition at Frampton Country Fair in Gloucestershire on Sunday 10th September.
This is the second year running that the contest has been won by a team from the Ledbury Hunt, who were competing against seven other hunts from across the West Country and South Wales. The hunt also won in title back in 2014.
Several thousand spectators crowded around the main arena at the popular country show to watch the hotly contested final between the Ledbury and the Devon and Somerset Stag Hounds.
The hunts competed against each other and against the clock, jumping a natural course of six fences and negotiating obstacles including a gate. Along with passing a baton from rider to rider, competitors also had to down a glass of port and be pushed along an obstacle course in a wheelbarrow!
The winning Ledbury team included Ledbury Hunt Joint Master Louise Daly from Putley, hunt subscribers Dave & Julie Mansell who also ride and train Point-to-Point horses in Hasfield, Gloucestershire and Tom Stokes who works as the countryman at the Ledbury Hunt kennels.
Commenting on the hunts repeated success Louise said “It was brilliant fun, it’s a great event and we were delighted to take part and help entertain the crowds. We had a few hairy scary moments along the way but we came primed and ready for action! Frampton is a lovely local country show, showcasing the very best of the British Countryside. As well as the hound parades the inter-hunt relays provide a great opportunity for the hunts to get involved and for people to see what it’s all about. We look forward to coming back to Frampton in 2018 to (hopefully) try and retain the title for the third year in a row!”
